Born in Lattakia, Mustafa Ali (1956) graduated from the Department of Sculpture, Faculty of Fine Arts, Damascus University in 1979 and obtained a degree from the Accademia di Belle Arti in Carrara, Italy in 1996. He founded the Mustafa Ali Art Gallery & Foundation and Al Makan Art Association to promote Syrian cultural events.
Born in Homs in 1953, Ghassan Nana studied at the Fine Arts Center in Homs and the University of Damascus. His luminous, delicate oil paintings are executed in a classical impressionist style, capturing soothing pastoral scenes that possess a haunting and ethereal quality. In one painting, a crowd gathered to celebrate a wedding is distinguished by their contrasting garments defined by a burst of color; in another, a lady in a long white gown stands beside a pianist playing a grand piano–moments that could exist in any era and cultural context. Nana has participated in numerous exhibitions including in Syria, Cairo, Russia, Bulgaria and Sweden, and London, and in 2010 Participated in making a Mural representing the Syrian revolution martyrs in Sweida, Syria.
Afaf Kharma (b. 1951, Homs, Syria) is a Syrian artist known for her distinctive style combining realism and classicism. A graduate of the Faculty of Fine Arts in Damascus, she draws inspiration from everyday life, capturing forgotten objects and subtle moments of light and shadow. Kharma has exhibited widely in Syria and abroad, with her first solo show held at Ishtar Gallery in 2020. She also taught art education in Hama, Homs, and Damascus, contributing to Syria’s vibrant art scene.
