Documenting the Sculptural Journey of Antonio Signorini
Over several years, I’ve had the honor of working closely with renowned Italian sculptor Antonio Signorini, capturing and documenting some of his most iconic projects. These included the celebrated “Flying Horses,” which express grace and transcendence through sculptural form, and the technically intricate “DNA” series, which merges artistic vision with scientific inspiration. Among these, the “Warriors” project has been especially impactful—timeless bronze figures inspired by prehistoric cave art, evoking guardianship, movement, and spiritual strength. I documented these works from all angles and in fine detail, aiming to preserve their monumental presence and the profound story they carry.
"The Warriors" series, inspired by prehistoric cave paintings, features bronze figures that evoke timeless guardianship and movement. To photograph this collection with the level of precision it deserved, I used a Hasselblad medium format camera paired with Broncolor lighting. This setup allowed me to capture the texture, and sculptural depth of each figure with extraordinary clarity. The controlled lighting brought out the fine details in the bronze surface while maintaining the dimensionality of the forms, ensuring the photographs reflected the powerful presence of the original artworks.

The "DNA" sculptures, with their intricate designs, reflect the intertwining of art and the fundamental structures of life. To photograph this monumental work—standing at nearly 4 meters high—I carefully designed a custom setup to highlight its scale and complexity. I used a Hasselblad camera to capture its fine structural details with precision, and implemented Broncolor lighting to achieve balanced illumination and emphasize its dimensionality. To control reflections and isolate the sculpture visually, I built an environment using large white walls surrounding the piece, creating a clean and neutral backdrop that enhanced its presence while maintaining focus on the form and craftsmanship.
“DNA is not just a question of science - it holds something even more profound. Somewhere within its structure, DNA stores culture. It holds the key to the origin of beauty, the unconscious taste that drives us with no sense of logic. For me, the UAE DNA monument is not a symbol of scientific advancement but rather an emblem of the beauty and culture unearthed at Saruq Al Hadid.
”ANTONIO SIGNORINI
"The Flying Horses" captures ethereal equine forms that seem to defy gravity, symbolizing a journey through space and time. In photographing this series, I aimed to reflect the fluid motion and sculptural elegance of each piece. I documented the works from all angles, including detailed close-up shots, to fully capture their craftsmanship and expressive form. Through careful lighting and composition, the final images highlight the delicate interplay between mass and movement, preserving both the physical presence and poetic spirit of the sculptures.

“The Flying Horses” displays an impossible balance, disobeying gravity. The horses are flying, like the light of the stars, coming from far away. Their origin is a mystery, as is their destination. They are captured soaring through the atmosphere, traversing from one world to another in their flight across space and time.
My role encompassed photographing the entire creative process — from production phases to the final sculptures — using high-end imaging techniques to preserve surface details, proportions, and the expressive power that defines Signorini’s work. I also covered the openings of major exhibitions and delivered custom-tailored imagery for publishing, marketing, and archival purposes.
This collaboration was more than documentation; it was a deeply enriching visual and cultural experience. It brought together the artist’s creative vision with technical precision to ensure these extraordinary works are preserved and presented with the impact they deserve.
